Privacy Notice

Welcome to glu

We're all about safeguarding your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is handled properly and transparently, following the rules of the Protection of Personal Information Act.

glu is a division of Professional Provident Society Insurance Company Limited, a licensed life insurer, a licensed controlling company and an authorised FSP. THE WHAT, THE WHY AND THE HOW WE COLLECT INFORMATION

Your information

We collect and process your personal information mainly to give you access to our services and products. To do this, we need the information we request from you, because without it, we can’t establish a relationship or assist you. When you provide details about third parties (such as your spouse or beneficiaries), we will process their personal information to issue policies or benefits and address their legitimate interests.

The information you share about third parties must be accurate and you must have their permission to provide it to us for the purposes mentioned in this Privacy Notice. If you're providing consent for a minor (someone under 18 years of age), you confirm that you're authorised to do so on their behalf. The type of information we gather depends on why it’s being collected, and we will only collect what’s necessary for that purpose. We collect information directly from you when you share your personal details when you apply for a product, make enquiries, or contact us.

We may also gather information about you, including criminal and medical details, from other sources such as third parties (including other PPS subsidiaries/divisions and insurers) for things like credit checks, fraud prevention, and law enforcement. We’re serious about keeping your information accurate, up-to-date, and relevant. We’ll do our best to gather information directly from you, and we appreciate you keeping it current. You can update your details any time by contacting your financial adviser or us at [email protected]. If we can’t get the info from you directly, we might turn to verified third-party sources.

How we use your information

The information we collect depends on what that information will be used for. As a licensed insurer, an accountable institution, and an authorised FSP, there is certain information that we need to collect and process to comply with the laws that govern insurers and FSPs.

We use your information to provide our services and regulatory compliance, which includes the processing to:

  • Comply with Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001 requirements (e.g. verify identity),
  • Underwrite,
  • Process claims,
  • Detect and prevent fraud.

We may also use your information to let you know about other financial products and services you might like. Don't want to hear about other financial products and services? No problem, just let us know.

Sometimes we need to share your information with our service providers, other insurers and affiliates who help us deliver our services, but don’t worry because we have agreements in place to ensure that they comply with these privacy terms. We might also share it with authorities when required to, or where it is necessary to protect our rights.

How we collect your information

We can collect the information in different ways. We will try to get all the information directly from you, but where we are unable to, we will use verifiable independent sources.

Through Cookies. When you use websites, certain information is collected, like how you logged on, IP address and sometimes approximate location.

Is your information safe?

We're not only legally required, but also committed to keeping your info safe and secure. We've got measures in place to make sure that only authorised people can access it, and we make sure that those we share it with, do the same. If we need to transfer your info to another country, we'll get your permission and/or make sure it's protected, just like it is with us.

You can ask for a copy of it (which you may have to pay for), object to how we use it, correct it, or even ask us to delete it.

Just get in touch with us on 011 568 0458 or contact your financial adviser. That's the short version. If you've got any questions, just give us a shout!
